R. Kelly found guilty again, this time on six counts of child sex crimes
Disgraced R&B singer R. Kelly, already serving 30 years in the slammer after being found guilty in 2021 in New York City of child sex abuse crimes, was found guilty again yesterday by a Chicago jury, this time on three counts of child pornography and three counts of child enticement. Based on his sentence from last year, Kelly – full name Robert Sylvester Kelly – wouldn’t be eligible to see the light of day outside of those prison walls until he’s an 80-year-old man.
ABC7 legal analyst Gil Soffer, who is a former federal prosecutor in Chicago, said it is highly unlikely Kelly will ever see the light of day. He faces up to 90 years in prison on the Chicago charges alone and he is a 55-year-old man, so he will likely die in prison.
According to Fox News, the now 55-year-old Kelly was looking at a total number of 13 charges this time around in Chicago, charges that included, “obstructing justice by paying off a minor victim and witnesses in a Chicago case filed in 2002, producing and receiving child pornography, and coercing minors into engaging in illegal sexual activity.” On Tuesday, Kelly’s jury began their deliberations – but only after watching an explicit sex video, “in which one of Kelly’s accusers, [his goddaughter] Jane, said she was 14 at the time it was recorded.”
In addition to Jane, four other women took to the stand to accuse Kelly of sexually abusing them while they were still minors, ages 14 – 17, according to MSN.
After 11 hours of jury deliberations, Kelly was found guilty of six of those thirteen counts – the three counts of child porn and three counts of enticing a child. He was acquitted of the remaining charges that included obstruction and conspiracy to receive child porn.
In Chicago, a conviction of just one count of child pornography carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years. The verdict of the jury in U.S. District Court in Chicago came after jurors deliberated for 11 hours over two days. ~ Reuters
