‘Random Acts of Kindness’: California cops handing out cash instead of tickets
If you were going to get stopped on the road by the cops yesterday, Madera County in California is the place to have done it. For the fifth year in a row, deputies with the Madera County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) teamed up with employees of the Agriland Farming Company Inc. – and instead of handing out traffic tickets, deputies handed out “50 Random Acts of Kindness” throughout the County. Thanks to the generosity of the Agriland Farming Company headquartered in Chowchilla, Madera deputies distributed 50 $100 bills – instead of traffic tickets.
MCSO Sheriff Varney said that his deputies primarily have contact with citizens when something stressful or bad is happening. Yesterday’s annual giving event provided his department with the opportunity to interact with the public in a positive manner and spread some holiday cheer.
Thank you to Agriland employees for your continued partnership, support, and commitment to our community. We are grateful that they have allowed us the unique privilege of being a part of this wonderful act of generosity each year.
Fresno ABC affiliate KFSN shared some of yesterday’s action on the roads.
“The reason I pulled you over is the registration on the vehicle is expired,” a deputy told Ryan Wood when he pulled over Wood in his truck. But instead of a summons, the deputy handed Wood a card from the Madera County Sheriff Deputies and the Employees of Agriland Farming Company, with a $100 bill tucked inside.
“(It was) not expected, I can tell you that much, so I’m very appreciative,” Wood told KFSN after he received the surprise gift. “And it’s a good time of the year to get surprises like that, so it’s pretty awesome.”
