Rapper Eminem fends off intruder and detains the home invader for police
Rapper, “8 Mile” actor, Grammy and Oscar winner Eminem is in the news today after it came to light that back on April 6, Matthew David Hughes slipped by a security gate on Eminem’s Detroit-area property, threw a brick through Eminem’s kitchen window and successfully broke into the artist’s home around 4 a.m.
Eminem, aka Marshall Mathers, awoke to a security alarm going off in his home and came face-to-face with the intruder.
The man “was verbally and physically detained by Marshall, while security was alerted,” an Eminem associate told the Detroit Free Press.
A spokesperson for the rapper confirms to ET that Eminem did detain an intruder in his home. The suspect entered the rear of the house while security was in the front of the property. The spokesperson clarifies that Eminem’s security was not asleep, like earlier reports had suggested. ~ ET
According to the Macomb County Scanner, Hughes wasn’t trying to burglarize the home. He just wanted to meet Eminem. Hughes is being detained at the Macomb County Sheriff’s office on a $50,000 bond.
Hughes, reported to be homeless, was charged in Macomb County District Court with first-degree home invasion and malicious destruction of a building – both felonies.
Hughes will appear in court June 29 for a competency hearing. He could face up to 20 years in prison for a home-invasion conviction, and up to five years for malicious destruction. ~USA Today
