Rapper Kodak Black expected to plead guilty to weapons charges
Singer, songwriter and rapper Kodak Black is known as much for his lengthy criminal record as well as his popular singles that include “Zeze” and “Roll in Peace.” And when he appears in a Miami courtroom on August 23, he’s expected to plead guilty to federal weapons charges.
Miami New Times provides an extensive timeline documenting Black’s legal woes, culminating this May in his being arrested for weapons possession in Florida.
This past April, Kodak Black and three others were apprehended by U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents while trying to cross into Canada from New York. He was found with a Glock 9mm pistol and marijuana and was taken to the Niagara County Jail.
He paid the $20,000 to $40,000 bond and then walked out of the jail with a fan of cash covering his face. Then, less than a month later, he was arrested for weapons possession in Miami.
Initially, the 21-year-old rapper pled innocent to state and federal charges regarding his alleged firearms violations. Prosecutors in the case against him say that he falsified information on federal forms to purchase as least three firearms. And one of those weapons turned up at the scene of a shooting that had gone down in South Florida.
A federal judge denied his request for bond saying he was “danger to the community” based on his lengthy criminal record. Black has remained in a federal detention center in Miami since his arrest. ~ MSN
