R&B singer Ann Marie charged and jailed after shooting childhood friend in the head

Ann Marie, a.k.a. Joann Marie Slater, the popular R&B singer out of Chicago, was arrested and jailed after police say she shot a friend of hers in the head. The 25-year-old “Secret” singer was booked into Georgia’s Fulton County Jail on Wednesday, December 2, following her arrest. The date the shooting occurred is reported to have occurred in Atlanta on December 1 at the Intercontinental Buckhead Hotel, according to MSN.

Her friend, 24-year-old Jonathan Wright, was rushed to a local hospital where he was listed as being in critical condition. Slater has since been charged with possession of a firearm during commission of a felony and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

An Atlanta Police Officer who arrived on the scene following the shooting said that the 24-year-old shooting victim was responsive, although suffering that severe gunshot wound to the head.

She allegedly told an officer that the victim was shot after “a gun fell off of a table in the hotel room which caused the gun to go off hitting the victim.”
Slater was allegedly “screaming hysterically,” according to the [police] report. It further states that she was removed from the room where the shooting took place.
The report notes that Slater asked officers if the victim was OK and explained they were visiting Atlanta. She said they grew up in Chicago together. ~ Fox News

When police initially arrived at the hotel, Slater was present and wearing only a bathrobe. Her friend, identified by TMZ as Jonathan Wright, was on the floor bleeding.

Police said that the victim suffered “a gunshot wound to the center of his forehead and an exit wound on his left temple.”

Slater first gained popularity as a pop singing sensation posting her original music to her own YouTube channel. Some of her better-known songs include “Tell Me Lies” and “Different,” and albums “Ann Marie”, “Unf—witable”, “Tripolar”, “Tripolar 2” and “Pretty Psycho.”
