It was just this Thanksgiving when my adult daughter-in-law and I were singing the praises of Disney films and their rich iconic history of classics over the years.  Our conversation turned to the new Moana 2 release and how she and I should go see it.  So, I was pleased to learn just today that the latest Disney venture crushed it at the box office during its Thanksgiving weekend release.

According to Forbes:  After a Disney Animation-best $13.8 million from Thursday’s domestic previews and record-shattering Thanksgiving Day $28 million stateside, Moana 2 is riding a wave of audience love to nearly $110 million through Friday. Opening weekend is on course for north of $300 million worldwide box office, a staggering sum that heralds a strong holiday season at the box office.

And it appears that the $300 million worldwide box office is just the beginning.

The title of the movie is a dead giveaway that it’s the sequel to Moana, the much loved and also very popular original released in 2016.  The plot of the original film follows a teenager who sets out on a journey to save her people by returning the heart of a goddess to her island. The film is set in ancient Polynesia on the fictional island of Motunui, which was inspired by real-life islands like Fiji, Samoa, and Tonga.
