
Registered sex offender arrested for trying to have sex with 13-year-old girl
On March 19, 2025, Byron S. McCormick, 54, was arrested by the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office after traveling from Broward County to St. Lucie County with the intent to engage in sexual activity with someone he believed to be a 13-year-old female. McCormick arrived in St. Lucie County on the evening of March 18, 2025, at approximately 9 p.m. Upon his arrival, and to his surprise, McCormick was confronted by an adult female Detective.
Detectives conducted further investigations and contacted McCormick’s probation office, where it was discovered that McCormick was a transient and had failed to register with his probation officer. Additionally, McCormick was found to have two cellular phones- a flip phone and a smartphone. Under the conditions of his probation, McCormick is prohibited from possessing any device capable of connecting to the Internet.
As a result of these violations, McCormick was arrested and charged with Sex Offender Violation – Failure to Register Phone Number Changes. He is currently being held at the St. Lucie County Jail with NO BOND. The investigation is ongoing.
