Dennis Day was a child star who performed along with the very first class of Walt Disney’s “Mickey Mouse Club” from 1955 through 1957 starting when he was 12 years old. The now aged “Mickey Mouse Club” Mouseketeer has been missing since last year. Sadly, the remains of a body found in a Phoenix, Oregon, home two months ago have been confirmed as being Dennis Day, who was 76 when he died.

Those remains were found in the home Day once shared with his husband, Ernie Caswell. Earlier today, Variety reported the following:

According to a statement released by the Oregon State Police, authorities first found the body on April 4, but the medical examiner’s office could not utilize dental or DNA identification due to the condition of the remains. The medical examiner’s office confirmed Day, 76, as the body on Thursday. The investigation remains ongoing.

Day’s initial disappearance proved to be puzzling for authorities. The Missing Persons Cases Network and KDRV reported that he was last seen in July 2018. Hampering the search into his disappearance, Day’s husband was hospitalized with dementia and couldn’t help with trying to locate him. Caswell was hospitalized at the time of Day’s disappearance, but reported Day missing when he realized he hadn’t seen his husband in a while.

Reportedly telling Caswell that he was going to visit some friends, Day left his dog with a temporary housemate. He has not been seen since.

“Sometime after Dennis’ departure, the family car also disappeared and was found on July 26 along the Oregon coast, being driven by persons unknown to Day’s friends.”

CNN reported that Day’s body was discovered back on April 4 in the home Day and Caswell once shared.  Because of the decomposed condition of the body however, it took authorities until now to confirm that those remains did belong to the former Mouseketeer.

“Our family is truly thankful to the Oregon State Police for helping to bring closure to our family so that we can finally lay Dennis to rest,” Day’s family said in a statement on Facebook.

The cause of Day’s death is currently under investigation.
