Premier subscription-based streaming service Netflix announced yesterday that famed Academy Award winner Renée Zellweger (Cold Mountain, Jerry Maguire, Chicago, Bridget Jones movies) will be starring in the service’s new drama series entitled “What/If,” described as a social thriller exploring the ripple effects of what happens when acceptable people start doing unacceptable things. Each season will tackle a different morality tale inspired by culturally consequential source material, and the power of a single fateful decision to change the trajectory of an entire life. The 49-year-old Zellweger is cast in the role of Anne.

Aol.com reported that no additional details about that character have been released. “What/If” is set for 10 episodes.

Writer / creator Mike Kelley (“Revenge” and “Swingtown”) will serve as executive producer for the new series along with executive producers Melissa Loy, Alex Gartner, Charles Roven, Robert Zemeckis and Jack Rapke. Co-executive producing is Jackie Levine.

Zellweger’s last role for TV was actually her 1992 acting debut in “A Taste for Killing,” a made-for TV movie. In her distinguished career, Zellweger has also received three Golden Globe and SAG awards.

What/If” is set to air in 2019 when, “Cash-strapped newlyweds weigh a lucrative but ethically dicey offer from a powerful woman,” according to Netflix.
