Rep. Rashida Tlaib apologizes for ‘mother****er’ comment, but didn’t apologize to Trump

At a public event last week, the new U.S. Representative to Michigan’s 13th congressional district, Rashida Tlaib, uttered the memorable words, “we’re gonna impeach the mother****er,” when talking about President Donald Trump. Her comment was cheered by her supporters at the event,  but criticized sharply by many establishment Democrats and Republicans.

When asked about her comments at a government shutdown press conference being held outside the White House, President Trump said:

“I thought her comments were disgraceful. This is a person that I don’t know, I assume she’s new. I think she dishonored herself and I think she dishonored her family. Using language like that in front of her son and whoever else was there, I thought that was a great dishonor to her and to her family.”

Trump continued, saying he thought her comments were “highly disrespectful to the United States of America.” ~ per USA Today

Yesterday, Tlaib did make a public apology regarding her “mother****er” comment; but she didn’t apologize to Trump.  She did though, apologize for the “distraction” her comment may have caused, adding that she “will never apologize for being me and for being passionate and upset.”

“I understand that I am a member of Congress, and I don’t want anything that I do or say to distract us. And that’s the only thing that I apologize for – that it was a distraction,” Tlaib told reporters when asked about the comments. She also called it a “teachable moment.” ~ per MSN

In defending her colorful language regarding the president, Tlaib said it’s all part and parcel of being from Detroit.  “I am very passionate, and I grew up in an incredibly beautiful, urban community—the city of Detroit—born and raised,” she explained. “We say colorful things in interesting ways, but I tell you, the president of the United States is my focus. The residents back home are my focus.”

One member of the establishment that came to Tlaib’s defense was House Speaker Nancy Pelosi who reminded the press that President Trump has also used colorful language on occasion.

“I don’t like that language, I wouldn’t use that language, but I wouldn’t establish any language standards for my colleagues,” according to MSN. “But I don’t think it’s anything worse than what the president has said.”

Also coming to Tlaib’s defense was another new Democratic Congresswoman, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who tweeted, “I got your back @RashidaTlaib – the Bronx and Detroit ride together 💪🏽💜 “

Tlaib also said yesterday that the nation’s focus should now be getting the government up and running again and ending the government shutdown.
