(Cover photo: Twitter) On May 1, the U.S. Marshals Service announced offering up to a $10,000 reward for information leading to the capture of an escaped inmate from Lauderdale County Jail, and the location of a missing and endangered correctional officer from Lauderdale County, Alabama, on Friday April 29.
Casey White, 38, was charged with two counts of capital murder in September 2020 in the brutal stabbing of 58-year-old Connie Ridgeway. He was already serving time for a 2015 crime spree that involved home invasion, carjacking, and a police chase. White confessed to the murder and was awaiting trial at the Lauderdale County Jail when he disappeared.
Lauderdale County corrections officer Vicky White is also missing in the line of duty. White is the Assistant Director of Corrections. A Blue alert for White’s disappearance has been issued.
“Casey White is believed to be a serious threat to the corrections officer and the public,” said U.S. Marshal Marty Keely. “Do not attempt to apprehend this fugitive,” said Keely.
The vehicle that the two left the detention center in was located in the parking lot of a nearby shopping center, according to an alert issued by the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office.
Casey White stands 6 feet 9 inches and weighs approximately 260 pounds. He has brown hair and hazel eyes. The U.S. Marshals Service has taken over the case of escaped inmate Casey White and the disappearance of Assistant Director of Corrections Vicky White. The two Whites are not related.
The story as to how Vicky White and Casey White came to leave the detention center together occurred under a mysterious circumstance. Vicki White was last seen escorting Casey White to the local courthouse on Friday around 9:40 a.m. for an “alleged mental health evaluation,” according to ABC News. Problem is, there was no mental health evaluation scheduled. It did not exist.
Vicki White was also alone with the inmate, which is a “strict violation of policy,” said Lauderdale County Sheriff Rick Singleton, who added that Casey White should have been escorted by two deputies given his charges
“Did she assist him in escaping? That’s obviously a possibility. So we’re looking into that as one angle of the investigation. Was she kidnapped en route to the courthouse? You know, taken against her will? That’s obviously another angle we’re looking at.” ~ CBS News
