Robert Forster: Versatile character actor and ‘Jackie Brown’ star dies at 78
Robert Forster, memorable supporting actor on TV and the big screen, died Friday following a battle with brain cancer. The 78-year-old passed away in Los Angeles surrounded by his family. His publicist, Kathie Berlin, shared with the media that Forster was diagnosed with cancer in June.
His acting career spanned more than five decades, and he was best known for his roles in “Reflections in a Golden Eye” and “Medium Cool.” He also got a best supporting actor Oscar nomination for his role as a bail bondsman in Quentin Tarantino’s “Jackie Brown,” Berlin said.

It was Forster’s role as Max Cherry in Quentin Tarantino’s 1997 film ‘Jackie Brown’ that the actor credited for reviving a stalled career.
Reprising the character of Ed in “El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie,” would be Forster’s final performance – a performance that was released on Netflix on the same day Forster passed away. Bryan Cranston, the star of the Breaking Bad franchise, shared his condolences on Twitter.
The actor will be leaving his mark in more than 100 cinematic features and television shows, including “Twin Peaks.” More recently, he portrayed Tim Allen’s dad on TV’s “Last Man Standing.” He also played the father of a comatose mother in the 2011 American comedy-drama “The Descendants”. That film also starred George Clooney and Beau Bridges and was nominated for ensemble acting prizes by SAG and the Gotham awards, according to Variety.
Forster is survived by his four children, four grandchildren and Grayson, his partner of 16 years.
