Concert goers hoping to catch Bret Michaels with his band Poison in Nashville last night were instead greeted by Poison band members who went onstage to, “let the audience know that Michaels was hospitalized after having ‘a bad reaction to medication’ and will not be able to perform,” according to Billboard. It was also revealed that the Poison frontman might be experiencing a bad reaction to some medication he was taking related to COVID-19.
The rocker is no stranger to health challenges. He was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when he was still a child, and, “underwent kidney surgery in 2014 and an operation to repair a congenital hole in his heart in 2011.” The latter condition was discovered when he was hospitalized after suffering a mini-stoke in 2010, according to MSN.
Michaels and Poison are currently part of a North American mega-tour performing with other iconic rock bands Def Leppard, Motley Crüe and Joan Jett. This stadium tour is actually one that was postponed back in 2020 when the global pandemic shut down just about everything. The Hollywood Reporter shared a quote from the band regarding that earlier tour being postponed:
“To all our loyal fans, we wanted to let you know that we learned today that the tour is getting moved to 2022. This is the only way to ensure that we can play ALL of the dates for ALL of you who have purchased tickets. We appreciate you hanging in there and can’t wait to get back on stage and bring The Stadium Tour to all of our fans. It is going to be one for the history books!”
Following a 2010 brain hemorrhage when he remained in intensive care for two weeks, Fox News quoted Michaels as saying, “I knew I was slurring my words, and I was like ‘OK, this isn’t a headache. There’s something really bad happening. I’m so grateful. I celebrate the anniversary as being on the good side of the dirt and surviving,” he told People magazine 10 years after the health emergency. “I don’t ever celebrate the brain hemorrhage.”
Following his being hospitalized, Michaels took to social media to write directly to his fans.
“I send my deepest apologies for being unable to rock the stage tonight,” Michaels, 59, tweeted Thursday. “I’m working on being back 100% very soon.”
The current Stadium Tour featuring Poison, Def Leppard, Motley Crüe, and Joan Jett, hit the road in Atlanta on June 16 and is scheduled to conclude in Las Vegas on September 9.
