Routine traffic stop nets known Florida felon with stolen gun and plenty of illegal drugs
Yesterday, the Collier County Sheriff’s Office headquartered in Naples, Florida, reported that their deputies arrested a 31-year-old man on multiple felonies on Tuesday after a traffic stop in Golden Gate led to the discovery of a stolen firearm and narcotics including the powerful opioid fentanyl inside his vehicle.
Michael Pilecki of 1455 Mockingbird Lane in Golden Gate Estates is charged with trafficking in fentanyl 4 grams or more, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and three counts of possession of a of a controlled substance.
Shortly before 2 p.m., a deputy patrolling the area of Coronado Parkway and Hunter Boulevard observed a white Lexus fail to come to a complete stop at a stop sign. The deputy made contact with the driver, later identified as Pilecki.
Pilecki, who is a convicted felon, was visibly shaking and appeared nervous while talking to the deputy, according to Collier County Sheriff’s Office arrest reports. The deputy deployed K9 Bear to conduct an exterior sniff examination of the Lexus.
K9 Bear alerted to the vehicle and a search was conducted.
The search turned up:
- A Ruger .38 revolver
- 5.5 grams of Fentanyl
- 4.8 grams of Methamphetamine
- 38 grams of Suboxone
- Three Clonazepam pills
- Numerous items of narcotic paraphernalia including scales and needles
The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) describes fentanyl as a synthetic opioid that is 80 to 100 times stronger than morphine. Just two to three milligrams of fentanyl can kill a person, according to drugs.com.
Further investigation by deputies found the Ruger was stolen out of Lee County.
Pilecki was taken into custody and transported to the Collier County jail.
