Ace News Today - Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively will match donations made to support Ukraine, up to $1M

Actors, philanthropists and supporters of Ukraine’s struggle, Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively, are putting their money up to support the southeastern European republic currently under assault and invasion by Vladimir Putin and Russia.  Considered to be the largest conventional waring operation since WWII, Russia commenced their full-scale incursion into Ukraine just days ago.  Now, coming to the aid of the Ukrainian citizens, the “Deadpool” and “Gossip Girl” power couple have committed to match donations going to support Ukrainian refugees – up to $1 million.

On Saturday, the 45-year-old actor revealed that he and his wife Blake, 34, will match donations up to $1 million made to the United Nations Refugee Agency in support of Ukrainian refugees.  ‘In 48 hours, countless Ukrainians were forced to flee their homes to neighboring countries,’ Ryan wrote on a retweet of a post by the non-profit organization. ~ MSN

Yesterday, Reynolds tweeted, “In 48 hours, countless Ukrainians were forced to flee their homes to neighboring countries,” adding a retweet of the original posting made by the UN Refugee Agency.

Working in tandem with her “Free Guy” husband, Lively also shared her version of the announcement to her Twitter and Instagram accounts.

And while many other Hollywood luminaries are doing their parts to share their support for Ukraine on social media, actor Seam Penn is actually in Ukraine filming a documentary on the invasion and urging the U.S. to send troops to the region.  On Friday, Penn was in the capital city of Kyiv, and released the following statement, shared by Variety and also posted to Twitter:

“Already a brutal mistake of lives taken and hearts broken, and if he doesn’t relent, I believe Mr. Putin will have made a most horrible mistake for all of humankind,” Penn said. “President Zelensky and the Ukrainian people have risen as historic symbols of courage and principle. Ukraine is the tip of the spear for the democratic embrace of dreams. If we allow it to fight alone, our soul as America is lost.”
