Savagely beaten woman awakens from two-year coma, identifies her brother as assailant
After two years of being hospitalized and in a coma resulting from being attacked, hacked, and left for dead in her Cottageville, West Virginia, home – Wanda Palmer miraculously awoke from her coma and was able to identify her assailant. Arrested yesterday by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office was Wanda’s brother, Daniel Palmer.
When Wanda emerged from her coma, although suffering from severe brain damage, she was still able to communicate to detectives that it was indeed her own brother who beat her into a comatose state.
Wanda was found by neighbors unconscious with serious head injuries at her home on Flatwoods Road on June 10, 2020. When deputies arrived, they found Palmer slumped over on her couch, unresponsive and severely injured, a criminal complaint filed in Jackson County Magistrate Court said. ~ WCHS TV
Palmer had been savagely bludgeoned in the head with a machete or hatchet MetroNews reported Friday. “When we got there, to be honest we thought she was dead,” Jackson County Sherriff Ross Mellenger said, according to The New York Post.
Daniel Palmer has been charged with Attempted Murder and Malicious Wounding.
Shortly after taking Daniel Palmer into custody yesterday, Sheriff Ross Mellinger said, “from an investigator’s standpoint, this is about as rare as it gets. I think it’s a true testament to the perseverance and the strength of the victim herself.”
