Scarlett Johansson tops Forbes List of Highest Paid Actresses, again
Scarlett Johansson is the world’s highest-paid actress for the second year in a row. Yahoo! News referenced Forbes as reporting that Johansson raked in $56 million between June 1, 2018, and June 1, 2019, before fees and taxes.
The 34-year-old “Black Widow” actress’ $56 million earnings for this year included income garnered for her yet-to-be released “Black Widow” solo venture. She also raked in $35 million this year from appearing in the Marvel mega blockbuster film “Avengers: Endgame.”
Thanks to this year’s “Avengers” release, Johansson earned $15.5 million more than she did in 2018. Other notable actresses listed in Forbes’ List of Highest Paid Actresses for 2019 include Jennifer Aniston and Kaley Cuoco.
And as delighted as we may be for Johansson and her talented female colleagues, a 21st century gender-based pay gap still exists between the highest-paid female actors and their highest-paid male counterparts.
The world’s 10 highest-paid actresses made a combined $314.6 million, hundreds of millions of dollars less than the top 10 actors, who pulled in $588.3 million this year.
Even Johansson’s $56 million payday would barley crack the list of Hollywood’s top 10 highest-paid actors. (Dwayne Johnson topped Forbes’ 2019 list with a whopping $89.4 million.) ~ USA Today
“I think every woman has (been underpaid),” Johansson told Cosmopolitan in 2016. “But unless I’m addressing it as a larger problem, for me to talk about my own personal experience with it feels a little obnoxious. It’s part of a larger conversation about feminism in general.”
She continued: “I am very fortunate, I make a really good living, and I’m proud to be an actress who’s making as much as many of my male peers at this stage.”
