Last weekend, salon owner Ngoc Q. Nguyen (“Annie”,) 51, of Garden Grove, California, was dragged to her death beneath a car driven by a 21-year-old Las Vegas woman who received a manicure at Annie’s shop – and then ran out of the salon to avoid paying for her $35 manicure. The driver of the car that killed Annie after skipping out on paying for that manicure has since been identified as Krystal Whipple.

Whipple is on the loose and on the run.

The tragic incident went down Saturday, December 29 at approximately 3:45 p.m. in the parking lot outside of the business.  The salon, Crystal Nails & Spa, is located about 40 blocks from the Vegas Strip.

Las Vegas police released storefront security video footage of the Saturday afternoon incident along with a plea for information on the whereabouts of the suspect, Krystal Whipple.

“We are asking the public’s help if they have knowledge of where this person is to contact the homicide section,” Officer Larry Hadfield told People on Thursday.

Before running from the salon, police say that Whipple did try to pay for that manicure – but with a fraudulent credit card. Whipple then told Nguyen and Nguyen’s husband that she was going out to her car to get some cash.  But when she got to the car, she got in and began to drive away. Annie and her husband ran outside to try and stop the woman when they noticed her car driving off.

Surveillance video shows the car running over Annie with Annie’s husband holding onto the rear of the runaway car. He held onto the car as Whipple drove from the parking lot and into the main road.

Turns out, Whipple’s getaway car was stolen last month.  It was a rental vehicle, a Camaro, that Whipple abandoned at an apartment complex not too far away from Nguyen’s salon after driving over the salon owner. In 2017, Whipple was found guilty of attempted possession of a stolen vehicle and received probation in that case.  She spent four months in prison after violating that probation.

A gofundme page has been set up to cover Annie’s funeral expenses, her debts, and help with her youngest child’s college costs.

Anyone with information about Whipple’s whereabouts should contact the LVMPD Homicide Section at (702) 828-3521 or by email at: homicide@lvmpd.com.
