Just after 8 p.m. on Monday, January 3, an inmate in the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office in Springfield, Georgia, escaped custody. A suspected door malfunction is believed to be the reason the inmate had access to an unsecured area where he made his escape. A full investigation into the escape is being conducted.

Around 7:10 a.m. on Tuesday, the sheriff’s office noticed Kevin David Lenix Wilson, 32, missing during a head count. They believe he escaped at 8 p.m. on Monday night. ~ WTOC

The Sheriff’s Office ended up calling a K-9 unit to the area. We’re told bloodhounds picked up Wilson’s scent and tracked him but they lost the scent near the jail, leading officials to believe he had an accomplice pick him up in a vehicle.

Wilson is described as a black male, 5 feet 10 inches, 189 pounds with black hair and brown eyes, with a medium build.  ~ WJCL

Wilson was being held for the Rincon Police Department for numerous charges that occurred during a traffic stop and chase in October of 2020.

Last August, Wilson was indicted by the Chatham County Grand Jury for three counts of malice murder, one count of felony murder, aggravated assault, armed robbery and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon that occurred on May 13, 2020 in Savannah.

The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office is working with numerous agencies in an attempt to locate Wilson and anyone who may have aided in his escape.

Police said that Wilson is considered to be dangerous and should not be approached.
