Serial bank robber: $10,000 reward offered for information on ‘Beltway Bank Bandit’ (Video)
The FBI in Washington, D.C. is seeking the public’s assistance to identify a serial bank robber dubbed the “Beltway Bank Bandit.” He is suspected of committing 20 bank robberies in Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, D.C.
According to the FBI, the suspect is described as a black male believed to be in his 20s to 30s. He stands between 5’7″ and 6’2″ tall, and weighs between 160 and 170 lbs.
In each robbery, he passed a threatening note demanding money and fled the bank on foot after receiving the funds. He has worn different disguises such as a baseball cap, wig, gloves, hijab, or hoodie, to alter his appearance during the robberies. He also displayed a gun during several of the robberies.
The FBI has increased the reward from $5,000 to up to $10,000 for information leading to the capture of this suspect.

Description of Each Robbery:
Between December 22, 2017, and January 2, 2019, an unknown suspect conducted nineteen bank robberies in Virginia, Washington D.C., and Maryland. In each of the robberies a note was passed to the tellers demanding money.
On December 22, 2017, at 3:47 p.m., an unknown suspect entered a BB&T Bank located at 13045 Lee Jackson Memorial Highway, Fairfax, Virginia. The suspect passed a note demanding money from the teller and then fled the bank on foot.
On January 11, 2018, at 10:26 a.m., an unknown suspect entered a Capital One Bank located at 85 H Street NW, Washington, D.C. The suspect passed a threatening note to the teller and then fled the bank on foot.
On February 13, 2018, at 10:36 a.m., an unknown suspect entered a Suntrust Bank located at 405 Manning Road, Accokeek, Maryland. The suspect passed the teller a threatening note and fled the bank on foot.
On March 1, 2018, at 1:50 p.m., an unknown suspect entered a Capital One Bank located at 3499 South Jefferson Street, Falls Church, Virginia, and attempted to rob it. The suspect handed the teller a threatening note demanding money; however, the teller was slow to provide the money and the suspect became impatient. The suspect then fled the bank on foot.
On March 8, 2018, at 12:35 p.m., an unknown suspect entered a M&T Bank located at 7485 Richmond Highway, Alexandria, Virginia, and robbed it. The suspect handed the teller a threatening note demanding money. The suspect then fled the bank on foot.
On May 14, 2018, at 9:25 p.m., an unknown suspect entered a Burlington Coat Factory located at 3200 Donnell Drive, District Heights, Maryland. The suspect wore a similar handbag and skirt that was worn during the Capital One Bank robbery on March 1, 2018 in Fairfax, Virginia.
On June 29, 2018, at 2:44 p.m., an unknown suspect entered into a PNC Bank located at 3297 Crain Highway, Waldorf, Maryland, and attempted to rob it. The suspect handed the teller a threatening note demanding money. The suspect fled after he saw another employee and did not obtain any money. The suspect was seen talking to an unknown individual on a hand held radio.
On July 12, 2018, at 10:14 a.m., an unknown suspect entered into a BB&T Bank located at 10660 Stanhaven Place, White Plains, Maryland, and robbed it. The suspect handed the teller a threatening note demanding money. The suspect then fled in a red Honda with a female driver. The suspect was seen wearing a white surgical mask, a red Hopewell Nursery shirt with a hat, a white long sleeve undershirt, and blue pants. The suspect was also seen carrying a clip board with a purple CD affixed to it.
On August 17, 2018, at 5:15 p.m., an unknown suspect entered a BB&T Bank located at 9412 Livingston Road, Fort Washington, Maryland. The suspect passed a threatening note to the teller demanding money. The suspect then fled on foot.
On September 14, 2018, at 5:00 p.m., an unknown suspect entered a BB&T Bank located at 9412 Livingston Road, Fort Washington, Maryland. The suspect stood in line for 3-4 minutes holding a white binder, posing as a customer. The suspect then approached the teller with a threatening note demanding money. The victim teller complied with the suspect’s demands and the suspect then fled on foot.
On October 9, 2018, at 11:14 a.m., an unknown suspect entered a Wells Fargo Bank located at 15480 Annapolis Road, Suite 200, Bowie, Maryland. The suspect entered the bank and handed the teller a note. The teller went to the back to obtain money and when she returned the suspect was gone. The suspect wore a medical mask on his face, a dark hoodie with a gray jacket, and a red baseball cap. The suspect also used a crutch and had a bag across his body.
On October 12, 2018, at 2:08 p.m., an unknown suspect entered a BB&T bank located at 5203 Franconia Road, Alexandria, Virginia, and robbed it. The suspect handed the teller a note and was seen fleeing the scene in a dark colored sedan with a female driving on South Van Dorn Street. The suspect used a glove to pick up the money. Prior to entering BB&T, the suspect entered a different bank next door, but was startled and left. The suspect was also seen wearing gloves at the first bank.
On October 12, 2018, at 4:40 p.m., an unknown suspect entered a PNC Bank (inside Giant) located at 14125 Saint Germaine Drive, Centreville, Virginia. The suspect walked into the bank and handed a note to the teller. The teller questioned the suspect, causing the suspect to flee.
On October 27, 2018, at 11:30 a.m., an unknown suspect entered a Bank of America located at 8096 Rolling Road, Springfield, Virginia, and attempted to rob it.
On October 29, 2018, at approximately 1:54 p.m., an unknown suspect entered a Eagle Bank located at 277 South Washington Street, Alexandria, Virginia, and robbed it. The suspect implied that he had a firearm in his possession.
On November 13, 2018, at approximately 1:00 p.m., an unknown suspect entered a Wells Fargo Bank located at 1805 Belle View Boulevard, Alexandria, Virginia, and robbed it. The suspect displayed a handgun to the teller.
On December 10, 2018, at approximately 9:00 a.m., an unknown suspect entered a Burke & Herbert Bank located at 5519 Franconia Road, Alexandria, Virginia, and robbed it. The suspect displayed a handgun to the teller.
On December 20, 2018, at approximately 9:45 a.m., an unknown suspect entered BB&T Bank located at 5203 Franconia Road, Alexandria, Virginia, and robbed it.
On January 2, 2019, an unknown suspect entered a Capital One Bank located at 15460 Annapolis Road, Bowie, Maryland, and robbed it. The suspect displayed a handgun to the teller.
On February 11, 2019, an unknown suspect entered a Capital One Bank located at 3532 Columbia Pike, Arlington, Virginia, and attempted to rob it.
