‘Sesame Street’ star Bob McGrath dead at 90

Bob McGrath, children’s author, actor, musician, and best known as one of the original cast members from TV’s “Sesame Street” has passed away at the tender age of 90. His family posted the news on social media yesterday, saying, “… the McGrath family has some sad news to share. Our father Bob McGrath, passed away today. He died peacefully at home, surrounded by his family.”
Sesame Workshop also posted a series of tweets regarding the passing of their very special alumnus.
When the now iconic “Sesame Street” TV show premiered in 1969, McGrath was there as a founding member of the cast portraying Bob Johnson – the friendly neighbor who befriended any and all of the Muppets and humans coming his way.
He made his final appearance on the show in 2017, marking an almost five-decade-long figure in the “Sesame Street” world.
The actor grew up in Illinois and studied music at the University of Michigan and Manhattan School of Music. He also was a singer in the 60s series “Sing Along With Mitch” and launched a successful singing career overseas in Japan. ~ ABC News
Bob married his wife, Ann Logan Sperry, in 1958. He is survived by Ann and their five children.
