Shakira hospitalized, forced to cancel concerts

On February 16, Colombian singer-songwriter and fan favorite mega star Shakira was forced to cancel her concert in Peru on Sunday due to medical reasons.  The 48-year-old singer took to social media to report that she was suffering from an abdominal condition, and her doctors informed her she could not go forward with any performances for the immediate future.  Shakira arrived in Peru on Friday where she was preparing to perform on Sunday and Monday, according to NBC News and The Associated Press.

I am very sad that I will not be able to take the stage today. I have been deeply emotional and excited about reuniting with my beloved Peruvian audience,” she said.

Deadline reports that in making the announcement, she also took to Instagram to thank everyone and assured concert goers and fans that she and her team and the promoters are already working on a new show date. “Thank you all for your understanding. I love you so much,” she wrote, signing the note with “Shak.”

She posted the following message on X, in Spanish and English.
