A heartbreaking and tragic tale coming out of Houston, Texas, as Sheriff Ed Gonzalez of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) announces the gruesome discovery of the skeletal remains of a small child. Making matters worse, deputies also discovered three youngsters, ages 7, 10 and 15, abandoned in the same apartment along with those skeletal remains. The apartment is located in the Green Crest apartment complex at 3535 Green Crest, near Addicks Clodine & Westpark Tollway.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office received a call from the 15-year-old boy, who reported the body of his 9-year-old brother was in the room next to his, according to Yahoo! News.
The 15-year-old told deputies that his nine-year-old brother had been dead for a year; and his body was in the room next to his.
The sheriff’s office reported that the surviving children appeared malnourished and showed signs of physical injury. All three were transported to a nearby hospital to be assessed and treated for their injuries.
The HCSO Homicide Unit, Child Abuse Unit, and Crime Scene Unit are conducting the investigation.
Investigators were working under the assumption that the children’s parents had not lived in the apartment for the last several months. The kids’ mother, along with her boyfriend, have been identified and have been located. Yesterday, the sheriff’s office announced that the mother and her boyfriend were interviewed – and then released.
No charges have been filed at this time. Child Protective Services is assisting with the children.
Sheriff Gonzalez said that his office’s “heartbreaking” investigation remains on-going. Anyone with any information regarding the circumstances in this case is urged to call (713) 274-9100.
