Sonic drive-through employee arrested after inadvertently selling hot dog laced with cocaine
On June 1, police in Española, New Mexico, arrested 54-year-old Jeffrey David Salazar and charged him with felony possession of a controlled substance related to the illegal narcotics found in a recent “Coney” hot dog he inadvertently sold to an unsuspecting customer at the Pedro Sonic drive-in.
The field test performed on the hot dog confirmed that cocaine had been placed on the “Coney” by Salazar during the time he was preparing food while employed at this location. ~ City of Española Police Department
The unsuspecting customer, a woman identified as Celine Gonzales, told police that after purchasing her “Coney” at the drive-through, she found a baggie containing a white substance included with her order. Unfortunately, she only discovered that baggie after taking a bite of her hot dog. “Officers say Gonzales then spit out the bag but didn’t say whether she ingested any of the drugs, NBC affiliate KOB-TV reported.”
Court documents related to this bizarre case state that security video from inside the Sonic depicted Salazar “frantically searching for something he lost” after preparing Gonzales’ order, according to NBC News.
After the woman reported the incident to police, Salazar fessed up and told authorities that the cocaine was his, and that he purchased the drugs from someone in the Sonic parking lot.
