Sony to re-release ‘Spider-Man Far From Home’ with new action scene
This summer, in an effort to unseat James Cameron’s 2009 epic science-fiction film “Avatar” as the highest grossing film of all time, Marvel Studios re-released their own epic film “Avengers: Endgame” during the last week of June with some extra footage and some fan giveaways at select theaters. Stealing a page from that script, Sony Pictures will be also be re-releasing “Spider-Man: Far From Home.” The latest Spidey film, featuring actor Tom Holland as our friendly neighborhood web-slinger being joined with actor Jake Gyllenhaal as Mysterio, will be boasting at least one new action scene, according to Variety.
Starting Aug. 29, a new extended cut, featuring four minutes of a never-before-seen action sequence, will be released in theaters in the United States and Canada. The film will also be available in IMAX and large formats in select locations.
Uproxx, via The Hollywood Reporter, shared that “Spider-Man: Far From Home” is already the highest-grossing Sony film of all time at the global box office.
The re-released film will only be in theaters for one week through September 5, according to Movieweb. One theory for the timing of the limited run release would be for Sony to be able to take advantage of movie-goers looking for something a little special to do over the 2019 Labor Day Weekend.
However, it stands at $376 million domestically. The studio could be looking for a little push to get it over the $400 million mark. More money is more money and it worked out quite well for Avengers: Endgame.
