South Dakota couple indicted for abusing six children; man indicted for killing two of the kids

South Dakota couple indicted for abusing six children; man indicted in manslaughter of two of the kids

A man and a woman from Parmelee, South Dakota, have been indicted by a federal grand jury for Child Abuse.  The man has also been indicted by a federal grand jury for Involuntary Manslaughter.

Dakota Horned Eagle, 29, and Ashley Stoneman, 25, were indicted on July 23, 2019.  Horned Eagle appeared before a U.S. Magistrate on August 22, 2019, and Stoneman appeared on October 25.  Both pled not guilty to the Indictment.

The Indictment alleges that on July 12, Horned Eagle and Stoneman did abuse, expose, torture, torment, and cruelly punish six children. The Indictment further alleges that Horned Eagle unlawfully killed two of the children while operating a motor vehicle, in a grossly negligent manner.

Horned Eagle and Stoneman were remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending trial, which has been set for December 17, 2019.

The maximum penalty upon conviction for Child Abuse is up to 15 years in federal prison and/or a $250,000 fine, 3 years of supervised release, and $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.  Restitution may also be ordered.
