Spring Break turns deadly: Nine hurt, two dead in Virginia Beach shootings
Virginia Beach, one of the most populous and one of the most popular towns in the Commonwealth of Virginia was the site of another U.S. mass shooting on the evening of Friday, March 27. According to the Virginia Beach Police Department, officers patrolling the 1900 block of Atlantic Avenue in the resort area reported hearing multiple gunshots at 11:22 p.m.
When they arrived in the area of 17th Street and 22nd Street, they found several gunshot wound victims. At that time, police reported that they had confirmation of eight people transported to local hospitals with gunshot wounds, with some of those injuries ranging from serious to life-threatening.
One Virginia Beach Police Officer was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. One adult female victim succumbed to her injuries from a gunshot wound and died at the scene.
Earlier this morning, the Virginia Police Department reported that there was also an officer involved shooting related to last night’s shootings. As is their standard protocol, the officer involved in that shooting will be placed on administrative assignment pending the outcome of an investigation.
The involved officer is assigned to the Special Operations Division and has been with the department for five years. One alleged male suspect is dead according to the police. Police also said that there was no additional suspect information available at this time.
In total, at least nine victims were injured and two people have died as a result of last night’s shootings, according to MSN.
This scene is still active with several crime scene areas blocking roadways. Therefore, police are asking for you to please avoid this area while detectives are investigating this case.
