Steelers’ Anthony Chickillo arrested, charged with assaulting Canadian pole vaulter Alysha Newman
Veteran outside linebacker for the Pittsburgh Steelers, 26-year-old Anthony Chickillo, was arrested this weekend and charged with simple assault, criminal mischief, property damage and harassment after being involved in a domestic altercation with his girlfriend, according to WTAE. Those criminal charges are all misdemeanors.
The alleged incident took place at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort in Farmington, Pennsylvania. He was arrested Sunday morning by Uniontown Pennsylvania State Police and, according to the court docket, was released on unsecured bail of $10,000. His preliminary hearing has reportedly been scheduled for October 30.
Steelers director of communications Burt Lauten issued the following statement on Chickillo’s situation late Sunday night, as shared by reporter Joe Rutter on Twitter:
The altercation between Chickillo and his girlfriend occurred following an incident at the Nemacolin Woodlands Resort in Farmington, Pennsylvania. While at the Lady Luck Casino, Chickillo reportedly got embroiled in an argument with his 25-year-old girlfriend, Alysha Newman. That argument continued after the couple went back to their hotel room around 1:40 a.m. Sunday.
Newman is a well-known and popular Canadian track and field athlete specializing in pole vaulting.
After police arrived on the scene, Chickillo told them that the argument got physical with his girlfriend punching him in the head. He went on to tell police that he pushed her to the ground after she punched him.
But the woman told police Chickillo grabbed her biceps and forced her against a wall and door of the hotel room, causing injuries, and that’s when she punched Chickillo in the head.
The woman said Chickillo then threw her to the ground and damaged her cellphone.

Newman was cited for harassment. USA Today reported that following his arrest by the Pennsylvania State Police, Chickillo was released after posting a $10,000 unsecured bond.
Chickillo has played his entire NFL career with the Steelers since Pittsburgh drafted him out of Miami in 2015. He’s missed three games this season due to injury, has 63 career regular season tackles to go with 7.5 sacks, three forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries, according to CBS Sports.
