Steve Carell to star in Netflix comedy based on Trump’s ‘Space Force’
On Wednesday, Netflix announced that actor Steve Carell will be returning to the smaller screen and reuniting with “The Office” producers Greg Daniels (The Office (U.S.), King of the Hill, Parks and Recreation) and Howard Klein (The Office (U.S.), The Mindy Project, Parks and Recreation) for the new workplace comedy ‘Space Force” to air on Netflix. Carell, who co-created the series, will star and executive produce. Daniels is the co-creator and will serve as showrunner and executive producer while Klein will also serve as executive producer.
The new series, which Netflix said is coming soon, will be based on President Donald Trump’s June 2018 announcement that he wants to create a new and sixth branch of the military known as Space Force. This week, Netflix released a video teaser for their take on the Space Force which introduces the goal of the show as being designed to “ … defend satellites from attack’ and ‘perform other space-related tasks’…or something. This is the story of the men and women who have to figure it out.”
The other buzz surrounding the new Netflix effort is Carell’s anticipated salary, which is said to be breaking some records.
Sources say Carell’s salary for Space Force — including co-creator and exec producer fees — sets a new overall record for talent, likely topping the $1 million per episode paydays that the castmembers of CBS’ The Big Bang Theory previously netted. ~ The Hollywood Reporter
