The third season of the Netflix science fiction series “Stranger Things” debuted on the streaming service on July 4.  Popular since its initial introduction in July 2016, the third season is breaking records – specifically Netflix’s 4-day viewing record.

More than 40 million households watched the show in its first four days, according to Netflix, with 18 million-plus already having finished all eight episodes.

The first episode of the series’ second season, which debuted in October 2017, had an average of 15.8 million viewers, according to Deadline.

“Stranger Things” is set in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana, with the first season taking place in 1983.  The show follows the exploits of a group of the town’s youngsters and how they deal with the dangerous and macabre supernatural events going down in Hawkins – and how they relate to one another.

The series is also notable due to the return of actress Winona Ryder to the spotlight.  Ryder seemed to slip into obscurity following a highly publicized 2001 shoplifting offense and was reportedly suffering from bouts with anxiety.  We’re glad to see the talented actress back in action.

Netflix provides the following synapsis regarding “Stranger Things” Season 3:

It’s 1985 in Hawkins, Indiana, and summer’s heating up. School’s out, there’s a brand new mall in town, and the Hawkins crew are on the cusp of adulthood. Romance blossoms and complicates the group’s dynamic, and they’ll have to figure out how to grow up without growing apart. Meanwhile, danger looms. When the town’s threatened by enemies old and new, Eleven and her friends are reminded that evil never ends; it evolves. Now they’ll have to band together to survive, and remember that friendship is always stronger than fear.
