‘Superman’ suit reveal: James Gunn posts teaser image of David Corenswet donning the iconic super suit
On May 6, the DC Universe fanbase was treated to the first glimpse of actor David Corenswet donning the iconic Superman suit for the highly anticipated 2025 superhero film directed by James Gunn. The Superman suit reveal, which was posted to Gunn’s Threads social media account showcased Corenswet in a weathered and battle-ready version of the suit. Yesterday’s suit reveal also answered the burning question as to whether or not the new suit version would include Superman’s red trunks – a subject of much debate amongst super-fans. And “yes”, the red trunks are back.
Gunn posted Corenswet in his full Superman outfit on Threads and Instagram early on May 6, and while the design has been met with general positivity, there’s also been a bit of surprise and confusion about the composition of the photograph and some details of the suit itself. For lack of a better phrase, Superman’s suit looks lived in. Not only is it dirty, but it’s also not a painted-on-tight mystery of physics mysteriously clinging to Corenswet’s body. ~ Screen Rant
As expected, the new suit is also being met with some criticisms as it’s showing a departure from the more recent Henry Cavil super suit which didn’t have the red trunks. But on the plus side, the red trunks are a return to the more iconic and classic suit depicted in the original design concepts. Honestly, fans are still upset that Gunn unceremoniously fired the popular Cavill from the Superman role in favor a total reboot with a fresh new actor.
The “new” Superman, David Corenswet, is perhaps best known for his roles in Ryan Murphy’s Netflix series “The Politician” and “Hollywood.” Whether we like it or not, Corenswet will be bringing a fresh, new look to the Superman character as he tackles the roles of Superman, and the character’s secret identity of Clark Kent. The film which was originally titled “Superman: Legacy” is being released under the new title of just “Superman.” Gunn has stated previously that this iteration of the Superman character will explore the dichotomy of Kal-El’s Kryptonian heritage and his human upbringing, embodying themes of truth, justice, and the pursuit of a better tomorrow.
The ensemble cast of “Superman” also includes Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as the infamous villain Lex Luthor, among other notable names like Nathan Fillion and Milly Alcock who promise to deliver compelling performances. Fans are also looking forward to the other superheroes like Hawkgirl, Mr. Terrific and Guy Gardner/Green Lantern that are scheduled to appear in the film.
