Our original article regarding the brutal December 16 shooting of Officer Holley appears below.

(12/16/2021) Just hours ago, the Baltimore Police Department reported that one of their on duty officers was shot several times in the early morning hours of December 16 while she was sitting in her squad card on Pennington Avenue.  According to reports, the shooter just walked up to the parked squad car and began firing.  The officer tried to speed away in her patrol car after getting shot; but she did not get too far before crashing her vehicle.

The seriously wounded officer was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries Thursday morning after she was shot multiple times in what was described as an ambush in South Baltimore.

The officer, whose identity was not released, is on life support while she undergoes life-saving surgery at Shock Trauma, chief physician Dr. Thomas Scalea said during a news briefing outside the hospital.  ~ CBS News in Baltimore

At approximately 1:35 a.m., Baltimore PD received a report of a vehicle crash in the 4400 block of Pennington Avenue. Upon arrival, the officers learned that one of their patrol vehicles had crashed and that the driver of the vehicle was an officer assigned to the Southern District. That patrol officer appeared to be suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds.

Officers began to render aid and worked to get the officer to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma as quickly as possible. The officer remains at Shock Trauma and is listed in guarded condition.

“This was a cowardly, brazen act to walk up and open fire on a police officer who was doing what we asked that officer to do – to go out to protect and serve,” said Commissioner Michael Harrison. “Our prayers are with the officer’s family. We are determined to find those responsible for this heinous crime and will not rest until we do.”

“My heartfelt prayers go out to the officer’s family and fellow officers who selflessly risk their lives to safeguard our neighborhoods and build a better Baltimore,” said Mayor Brandon Scott. “Whomever committed this heinous act is a coward who must be brought to justice for our officer, the officer’s family and our city. I have no doubt that our detectives will find those responsible, but we need anyone who has information to come forward and share it with us now. No family should be dealing with this pain, especially during the holidays. As a city, we owe it to our officer to quickly bring those responsible to justice.”

Maryland’s Governor Larry Hogan also weighed in on the shooting:

Police have not released the identity of the officer out of respect for the officer’s family, according to WUSA-9

Anyone with information is urged to contact detectives at 410-396-2100 or Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7Lockup. As of this writing, the suspect is still on the loose. For more on the December 16 shooting of the Baltimore Police Officer, see the video accompanying this article.
