On June 16, Detectives from Baltimore County’s Special Victims Unit reported that they arrested and charged 26-year-old Subhan Zaib on Wednesday with First Degree Rape. Through their investigation, it was determined that Zaib sexually assaulted and robbed his victim in the area of Shipping Place in Dundalk, Maryland.
Zaib is also wanted by authorities in New York City and has been accused of slashing and choking a young woman in a Lower East Side subway station, according to News Everything which reported that Zaib attacked his 19-year-old victim about 4:50 a.m. on June 10 as she descended the stairs to the F train station at Essex and Delancey Streets. (Note that News Everything misspelled Zaib’s last name as Daib.)
He approached her from behind, put her in a chokehold and repeatedly slashed her on the neck and back before running up to the street, sources said. Medics took the victim to Lenox Hill Hospital in stable condition.
Zaib has an active rap sheet and was arrested on multiple occasions and just before he was busted for rape in Baltimore County. He was taken into police custody in Brooklyn and Queens back in May for domestic-violence incidents, making phone threats, menacing, criminal trespass and misdemeanor weapon possession charges. On each of those occasions, he was released after a court appearance because the charges were not “bail-eligible,” according to the New York Daily News.
The Daily News went on to report that Zaib was arrested again in Brooklyn on June 4 for assault, strangulation and other charges. The strangulation charge is bail-eligible, but a judge ordered him released without bail. And on June 7, he was arrested again in Queens, for menacing, harassment and attempted assault — none of them bail-eligible charges.
Zaib is currently being held without bail at the Baltimore County Detention Center. Detectives are seeking information from anyone who may have been in contact with him. Please contact Baltimore County’s Crimes Special Victim’s Unit at 410-887-2223 with any additional information.
Although wanted by the NYPD, Zaib has not yet been charged in the Lower East Side attack.
