SWAT called in to end standoff after Vero Beach man threatens to kill girlfriend and daughter with butcher knife
Early Sunday morning, deputies with the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office (IRCSO) responded to a domestic disturbance call in the Vero Beach, Florida Ridge community where a convicted felon who was on probation was holed up in his home, out of control, and wielding a deadly weapon.
Edgerrin Billie, 23, was threatening to kill his live-in girlfriend and her three-year-old daughter with a butcher knife. Thankfully, the woman and her daughter managed to escape the residence and call 911 from a nearby 7-11 store.
When deputies arrived at the residence, Billie refused to come out and hid inside the home armed with a knife. The Indian River County Sheriff’s SWAT, Crisis Negotiations Team, and drone unit responded shortly thereafter and were able to safely get Billie out of the home without further incident.
“With no regard for anyone’s life but his own, Billie threatened the life of his family and neighbors while he barricaded himself in his home with a weapon,” said Sheriff Eric Flowers. “This could have ended with tragedy, but thanks to the brave response of our deputies and detectives, this incident ended with a violent individual in custody.”
Following his arrest, Billie was booked into the Indian River Country Jail on the following charges:
- Aggravated Assault with Deadly Weapon
- Resisting Arrest without Violence
