Maria turned 12-years-old just a month before she was hit and killed while crossing North Rolling Road with her pregnant aunt a little after 9 p.m. Friday night, March 22. Her aunt, a 32-year-old woman, continues to recover from the crash following her release from Sinai Hospital.

The child, 12-year-old Maria Popal, was transported to Sinai Hospital where she was pronounced deceased. The vehicle that struck Maria and her pregnant aunt will likely have damage to the front passenger side corner of the vehicle.
