On March 8, the Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) released word that the agency’s homicide detectives arrested a Tamarac, Florida, woman on murder charges. That arrest went down on Tuesday.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Shortly after 5:30 p.m. on Monday, March 6, Broward Regional Communications received a report of a medical emergency in the 8800 block of Northwest 75th Court in Tamarac. BSO deputies and Tamarac Fire Rescue responded. Once on the scene, deputies located a deceased adult male who had sustained a gunshot wound. Those first responders determined this was a delayed report of a shooting.
BSO’s Homicide and Crime Scene units responded and began a death investigation. The Broward County Medical Examiner’s Office conducted an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death, which was ruled a homicide.
Homicide detectives believe 25-year-old Tatiana Tavarez shot and killed the victim and then left the home on foot around 5 a.m. on Monday. An individual inside the home discovered the victim’s body and alerted law enforcement around 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Tavarez returned to the home on Tuesday morning, and BSO detectives brought Tavarez in for questioning.
Neighbors say law enforcement had previously been to the home and it was well known that the couple who lived there kept a gun. “There’s a lot of domestic abuse disputes,” a neighbor said. ~ Local 10 News
Tavarez confessed to committing the homicide and was subsequently arrested. She was being held without bond in the death of the man, who was not identified, according to CBS News in Miami. The victim’s name is being withheld under Marsy’s Law.
During the physical arrest, Tavarez resisted and scratched a BSO deputy during an altercation. She was booked into the Broward County Main Jail on charges of first-degree murder with a firearm and battery on a law enforcement officer.
The video below shows BSO deputies approaching Tavarez with guns drawn as she climbed over the home’s fence at around 7:30 Tuesday morning.
