Taylor Hawkins: Long-time Foo Fighters drummer dead at 50
(Updated 03/27/2022) Long-time Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins has died at the way too young age of 50. The band shared the tragic news earlier today on social media and tweeted:
“The Foo Fighters family is devastated by the tragic and untimely loss of our beloved Taylor Hawkins. His musical spirit and infectious laughter will live on with all of us forever. Our hearts go out to his wife, children and family, and we ask that their privacy be treated with the utmost respect in this unimaginably difficult time.”
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that Hawkins had been complaining of chest pains prior to his passing. On Friday, Hawkins’ lifeless body was discovered inside the Four Seasons Casa Medina Hotel in Colombia where he was staying.
Born Oliver Taylor Hawkins in Fort Worth Texas in 1972, Hawkins was raised in Laguna Beach, California. He played in the small Southern California band Sylvia before landing his first major gig as a drummer for Canadian singer Sass Jordan. He then spent the mid-1990s as the touring drummer for Alanis Morissette before Grohl asked him to join the Foo Fighters. ~ New York Post
Hawkins was invited to join the Foo Fighters in 1997 and remained their drummer for the next 25 years. He was touring with the band fronted by his best friend Dave Grohl when he died. “Foo Fighters had been scheduled to play at a festival in Bogota, Colombia, on Friday night. Hawkins’s final concert was Sunday at another festival in San Isidro, Argentina,” according to CBC News.
Hawkins is survived by his wife Alison and their three children. Social media condolences regarding his passing have been pouring in.
