On Saturday, May 13, Ocala, Florida’s, Marion County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) Major Crimes Detective Kip Peterson arrested Ehren Volcy, 19, who officials say shot and killed 19-year-old Deshawn Ballestero.  Volcy has since been charged with that homicide.

On May 12 around 7:20 p.m., MCSO deputies responded to a home in the 600 block of Marion Oaks Boulevard in reference to a shooting. When deputies arrived, they located Deshawn Ballestero suffering from a gunshot wound. Deputies rendered aid until Marion County Fire Rescue responded and transported him to HCA Florida Ocala Hospital, where he ultimately died from his injuries.

Witnesses provided deputies with a description of a vehicle they observed fleeing from the location at a high rate of speed. Approximately 30 minutes later, deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle matching that description and contact was made with the driver, Ehren Volcy, and a juvenile. Through video and photographs provided by witnesses, deputies confirmed that Volcy’s vehicle was the one witnesses saw leaving the scene of the shooting.

Volcy and the juvenile were detained while deputies continued to gather evidence and information.

Through his investigation, Detective Peterson determined that Volcy drove to Ballestero’s home with an unidentified adult male and the juvenile. Volcy then exited the vehicle, armed himself with a firearm, and fatally shot Ballestero, who was outside changing a tire. Probable cause for Volcy’s arrest was determined based on the evidence collected, which was corroborated by multiple witnesses’ statements.

Volcy was arrested and charged with Murder in the Second Degree and transported to the Marion County Jail, where he is held without bond.  He has a court date scheduled for Tuesday, June 13,according to Ocala News.
