Tequesta town council candidate Julie Mitchell arrested for stabbing her teen daughter and husband
Life seems to have changed in the blink of an eye for 54-year-old Julie Mitchell, who up until recently was running for a seat with South Florida’s Tequesta Village Council in Palm Beach County. Something went horribly wrong with Julie and her family though as the news out of Tequesta states that she was arrested Thursday morning and now stands accused of stabbing her husband and daughter. Reportedly, the stabbings went down at approximately 7:30 a.m. Thursday morning in their family home located on Golfview Drive in Tequesta.
A criminal investigation into the incident is underway.
When officers with the Tequesta Police Department arrived at their home yesterday morning, they initially discovered the teenage daughter waiting outside of the home suffering a head injury. The daughter informed officers that she’d been stabbed by her mom. Inside the home, police found the husband who had been stabbed in his arm.
Officers at the scene struggled to gain control of Mitchell, who was still armed with a knife. They eventually disarmed and apprehended her.

Mitchell’s two familial victims were transported to a nearby hospital where officials were able to treat them, stating that their injuries “were not life-threatening.” Police recovered the knife used in the stabbings and said that there was no known motive for the violence.

There’s been no statement from anyone in the Julie Mitchell campaign as to whether or not she’ll remain a candidate for her political seat. Her “Vote for Julie” website has been modified with the simple message that reads:
Maintenance mode is on
Site will be available soon. Thank you for your patience!
CBS12 News reports that there’s still no confirmation as to what led up to the stabbings. Prior to Mitchell’s campaign website going into maintenance mode, it stated that Julie was married with two teenage children and that prior to moving to Golfview Drive in Tequesta, she served for 20 years as a neighborhood coordinator for the town of Jupiter.
WPTV quoted Tequesta Vice Mayor Laurie Brandon as saying that, “It’s a very sad day in Tequesta. And we really hope the public really respects the privacy of the family and that they heal, and that the community heals together with them.”
