Texas child, 3, picks up a gun at his birthday party and accidentally shoots and kills himself
Tragic news coming out of Porter, Texas, after the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office reported that around 4:15 p.m. yesterday, deputies were dispatched to a home in the 23000 block of Owens Road in Porter after being called to perform a welfare check. When deputies arrived at the home, they discovered a three-year-old boy had been shot and was suffering from a gunshot wound to his chest.
The Sheriff’s Office said that during the investigation, they learned that the child found the pistol after it fell out of a family member’s pocket – and that the little boy picked up the gun and shot himself.
Family and friends had gathered earlier in the day to celebrate the boy’s birthday, and while playing cards, everyone at the party heard a gunshot ring out.
The un-named three-year-old was rushed to the nearby Porter Fire Station where he tragically died from his wounds.
The circumstances surrounding how the family member lost their firearm at the party were not disclosed and authorities did not say whether the gun owner acted in an improper or irresponsible manner when it came to safely securing the firearm. ~ ABC News
The Sheriff’s Office released a statement saying that their thoughts and prayers go out to the child’s family and friends following this tragic accident.
