‘The Big Bang Theory’ wardrobe items going to the Smithsonian
Sheldon Cooper’s iconic “Flash” t-shirt … Howard Wolowitz’s dickie and belt buckle … Amy Farrah Fowler’s knee-length skirt … All of these wardrobe items and more will become part of history as they join the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C.
The news was announced by series stars Johnny Galecki, Jim Parsons, Kaley Cuoco, Simon Helberg, Kunal Nayyar, Mayim Bialik and Melissa Rauch during their special appearance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.” Signing off as the longest-running multi-camera series in television history, with 279 episodes and 12 seasons, Warner Bros. Television’s “The Big Bang Theory” aired its final two episodes back-to-back earlier that evening, Thursday, May 16.
Joining thousands of artifacts in the museum’s popular entertainment collections that help tell the story of groundbreaking work in American television, the historic donation includes full costumes worn by the seven primary characters, from the series costume designer Mary Quigley.
In addition to the items mentioned earlier, “The Big Bang Theory” has also donated Leonard Hofstadter’s hooded cargo jacket and “Recycle” T-shirt, Penny’s tank top and Ugg boots, Rajesh Koothrappali’s sweater vest and jacket, and Bernadette Rostenkowski-Wolowitz’s floral dress and cardigan.
The Big Bang Theory series finale was viewed on May 16 by 18 million viewers, according to Mashable.
