A new study has found that the French Bulldog is the world’s most ‘Instagrammable’ dog breed.

  • The French Bulldog is the most ‘Instagrammable’ dog breed, with 37.4 million posts featuring #FrenchBulldog.
  • The Golden Retriever and Chihuahua ranked second and third, respectively, with more than 34 million tagged posts on Instagram each.
  • The study looked at the number of hashtags for 281 dog breeds across 568 million Instagram posts.

Pet wellbeing experts OurFitPets, analyzed more than 568 million Instagram posts containing hashtags for 281 dog breeds recognized by the American Kennel Club. These were then ranked to determine which breed is the most talked about on Instagram.

The results showed that the French Bulldog is the most ‘Instagrammable’ dog breed. ‘Frenchies’ as they are affectionately referred to, came out on top with an impressive 37.4 million posts tagged with #FrenchBulldog. The breed, which was officially recognized by the AKC in 1898, was also America’s most registered dog breed in 2022.

The second most Instagrammed dog breed is the Golden Retriever. Golden Retrievers are beloved for their loyal and friendly personalities, as well as their ability to assist humans in a variety of tasks. #GoldenRetriever is tagged in more than 34.6 million posts on Instagram.

Next is the smallest dog on the list, the Chihuahua. This toy breed, which originates from Mexico, came a close third with 34.5 million posts containing #Chihuahua.

The Pug is the fourth most popular dog breed to feature on Instagram, with #Pug appearing in more than 23.9 million posts. This breed is widely considered low maintenance, making it a no-brainer for busy Americans and placing it firmly in the top five.

The Bulldog takes the fifth spot. This breed has been tagged in more than 23.1 million Instagram posts and is one of the few breeds that has been recognized by the American Kennel Club since the 1800s.

The Poodle ranks sixth, with more than 22.3 million posts tagged with #Poodle on Instagram. Not only is this breed hypoallergenic, but the Poodle is one of the few breeds that comes in three size varieties: standard, miniature, and toy.

The seventh place goes to the Pomeranian. This small breed, often referred to as the “Pom Pom,” appears in more than 21.2 million posts using the tag #Pomeranian on Instagram.

The Dachshund, commonly referred to as the sausage or wiener dog, takes eighth place with the hashtag appearing in more than 19.4 million posts.

Commenting on the findings, a spokesperson from OurFitPets said:

“It’s clear that our furry friends continue to bring joy and happiness into our lives, and Instagram provides us with a platform to celebrate and share all of their cute and quirky habits.”

“Interestingly, the data revealed that smaller dog breeds tend to have a higher Instagram appeal than their larger counterparts, with eight of the breeds in the top 10 comprising of small or medium-sized breeds.”
