The world bids goodbye to beloved ‘Friends’ star Matthew Perry, gone at 54

Less than 24 hours have passed since we heard the tragic news that the world is a less happy place, now that beloved “Friends” star Matthew Perry was found dead at 4 p.m. on Saturday, October 28, from drowning in his hot tub at his home in the Pacific Palisades at the way too young age of 54. According to reports, no drugs were found at the scene and police do not suspect foul play.
The death was confirmed by Capt. Scot Williams of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery-Homicide division. He said the cause of death was not likely to be determined for some time, but there was no indication of foul play. ~ New York Times
Perry rose to fame and fortune with the rest of his ccastmates portraying the sardonic, sarcastic and beloved character of Chandler Bing during the “Friends” network run of 1994 through 2004.

Following “Friends,” Perry continued to work in film and on TV, co-starring on the big screen in The Whole Nine Yards, 17 Again and Fools Rush In. He also made a run on TV with his version of the rebooted “Odd Couple” sitcom.
In 2021, he joined with his “Friends” co-stars for a long-awaited TV reunion with castmates Jennifer Aniston (Rachel Green), Courteney Cox (Monica Geller), Lisa Kudrow (Phoebe Buffay), Matt LeBlanc (Joey Tribbiani), and David Schwimmer (Ross Geller.)

Through all his successes, Matt was always upfront and honest regarding his demons and struggles with alcohol and drugs. In his 2022 memoir Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing, he talks about his addictions and how it affected his physical appearance on “Friends,” saying: ““When I’m carrying weight, it’s alcohol; when I’m skinny, it’s pills; when I have a goatee, it’s a lot of pills,” according to a quote from his memoir shared by The Independent,
