Police in Maryland are investigating a fatal three-vehicle crash that occurred shortly after 10 a.m. on the morning of April 14 in Harford County.  The vehicles involved were a Chevrolet Traverse, a box truck and a Ford Transit van.  One man died and six others, including three children, were sent to the hospital with injuries.

The driver of the Chevrolet Traverse, identified as Tyler Lingenfelter, 33, of Havre de Grace, Maryland, was pronounced dead on the scene. Three juvenile passengers in the Traverse were transported by ambulance to area hospitals for treatment of their injuries. There haven’t been any updates on their conditions.

The driver of a box truck, a 55-year-old male and passenger, a 44-year-old female, as well as the driver of a Ford Transit van, a 62-year-old male, were also transported by ambulance to area hospitals for treatment of their injuries.

Background: Shortly after 10 a.m. yesterday, Troopers from the Maryland State Police Bel Air Barrack responded to the area of eastbound Churchville Road (MD-22) west of N. Stepney Road for a report of a three-vehicle crash. According to a preliminary investigation, the Traverse, operated by Lingenfelter, was traveling west, when for unknown reasons, it crossed the center lines, striking the box truck. The impact of the initial crash subsequently caused the box truck to strike the Ford Transit van.

Assistance at the crash site was provided by Troopers from the Maryland State Police Bel Air and JFK Highway Barracks, and the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division. Personnel from the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration, Harford County Sheriff’s Office, Harford County Department of Emergency Services, and the Level Volunteer Fire Department also assisted.

The Maryland State Police Crash Team is leading the active and ongoing investigation.
