Tragic news coming out of Broward County as their Sheriff’s Office reports that at approximately 8:19 a.m. on Saturday, November 25, a 911 call came in reporting a shooting at the Extended Stay America Hotel near the 3000 block of West Commercial Boulevard in Tamarac. Broward Sheriff’s Office district deputies and Tamarac Fire Rescue responded. Once on the scene of the reported shooting, deputies found a little girl suffering from a gunshot wound.

The child, identified as De’Yonnie Cleveland, was staying at the hotel with her mother.  Deputies established a perimeter while paramedics pronounced the child deceased on scene. Homicide detectives were notified and responded to the scene.

CBS News Miami’s Morgan Rynor spoke with the victim’s mother, who cried in disbelief that her child — Deyonnie — had been killed. Her family wanted everyone to remember that Deyonnie was the life of the family, energetic and playful, and always wanted yogurt in the morning. ~ CBS News

BSO investigators with the assistance of Lauderhill Police Department detained two occupants of a U-haul truck located in Lauderhill in connection with the shooting. Those individuals were subsequently released. BSO Homicide detectives continue to investigate the circumstances leading up to this fatal and tragic shooting.

The child’s aunt, who lives in Orlando, says the girl’s mother called her right after the 3-year-old was shot.  “She called me screaming this morning,” she said.

“All she told me was my niece got shot and when she woke up she was on the ground in blood.”  ~ Local 10
