Tiger Woods and girlfriend hit with wrongful death lawsuit
Golfing superstar Tiger Woods along with his girlfriend Erica Herman and the restaurant Woods owns in in Jupiter, Florida, are all being sued for the wrongful death of an employee at the restaurant who died in a car crash leaving The Woods restaurant in Jupiter on December 10, 2018. Woods’ girlfriend, Herman, is the restaurant’s manager, according to ESPN.
Nicholas Immesberger, 24, was a bartender at the restaurant. The lawsuit claims that the staff at the restaurant were all well aware that Immesberger had a drinking problem, but the staff plied him with drinks one night after his shift ended and allowed Immesberger to leave the bar and drive home.
The lawsuit, brought by his parents, said Immesberger finished his shift at 3 p.m., sat at the bar drinking and died in a single-car accident about 6 p.m.
The civil complaint says Immesberger had a blood alcohol level of .256, three times the legal limit. A police report says he was driving an estimated 70 mph in a 55 mph zone.
The suit alleges employees knew Immesberger attended Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and had another alcohol-related crash in November.
It also says Woods and Herman knew of his disease but were drinking with Immesberger a few nights before the fatal crash. The suit alleges that the employees and management at The Woods promoted drinking by employees. ~ per CNN
Immesberger suffered fatal injuries when he tried to drive his Corvette home and died at the scene of the crash, which occurred on Federal Highway in Martin County. Business Insider also reported that his blood-alcohol reading of .256 at the time of the fatal crash was more than three times Florida’s legal limit.
The lawsuit claims that Woods and his girlfriend were drinking at The Woods with Immesberger just a few nights before Immesberger’s car crash. According to the suit, “Tiger knew, or reasonably should have known, that Immesberger was habitually addicted to the use of any or all alcoholic beverages, and/or was a habitual drunkard.”
Woods has also had his own issues with drinking and driving.

The lawsuit filed against Woods also includes the passage:
“In fact, employees and managers knew that Immesberger had attended Alcoholic Anonymous meetings prior to the night of his crash and was attempting to treat his disease. Despite this, the employees and management at The Woods continued to serve Immesberger alcohol while he was working as well as after work, while he sat at the bar.” ~ per USA Today
Just last week, Woods was presented with the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Donald Trump. That award ceremony went down on May 6 at the White House in Washington, D.C.
Woods is in New York this week, appearing and playing in the PGA Championship currently underway in Farmingdale, New York.
