Traffic stop turns into high-speed police chase and drug bust of previously convicted felons

On July 9, Florida’s Collier County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) announced that a convicted felon faces eight new felony charges after trying to elude deputies early Friday morning. William Easley, 25, was apprehended after leading deputies in a pursuit while driving a car full of illegal narcotics.
“No matter how much you run, you can’t hide from our relentless deputies,” Sheriff Kevin Rambosk said. “We are committed to keeping Collier County free from drugs. This arrest is a perfect example of how hard all our units work to stop anyone who brings narcotics into our county.”
At 2:39 a.m., deputies initiated a traffic stop near Immokalee Road and Dancing Wind Lane near Urban Estates in Naples for an expired vehicle registration. Easley, driving a blue Hyundai, fled east on Immokalee Road at speeds of up to 115 miles per hour.
Deputies deployed stop sticks and the vehicle stopped near the intersection of Randall and DeSoto boulevards. Easley fled on foot but was spotted by the Sheriff’s Aviation Unit and apprehended by their K9 Unit about one mile from the crash.
Easley, of Marble Brook Boulevard in Lehigh Acres, was charged with separate felonies for possession of Adderall, amphetamines, cocaine, marijuana, clonazepam, and THC edibles. Easley also is charged with felonies for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, as well as fleeing law enforcement.
Easley was wanted on two warrants out of Lee County, as well.
A passenger in the vehicle, Robert Varn of Slater Road in Fort Myers, also was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
