Trio with three young kids busted selling drugs out of Vero Beach Motel 6
On the evening of February 18, the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office reported that throughout this month, Special Investigations Unit (SUI) detectives began an investigation into the sale of illegal narcotics being conducted by two men living at the Motel 6 – located at 8800 20th Street in Vero Beach, Florida.Â
SUI detectives conducted several undercover operations looking into the sale of prescription pills being sold at the Motel 6 and obtained search warrants for the two rooms in which the suspects were using as headquarters for their drug sales. One woman was also caught up and arrested in the special investigation.
Arrested were Cody Steven Bass, 26; Bass’ girlfriend Tiffany Marie Curtis, 28; and Bass’ 50-year-old father, Lester Steven Bass.
SIU detectives assisted by K9 deputies executed the search warrant and discovered the drug sales were happening in the presence of a 2-year-old, a 4-year-old and a 9-year-old. Â Â ~ CBS12 News
Due to children being directly exposed to this illicit activity and the poor living conditions in both rooms, Department of Children and Family Services investigators responded and assumed custody of all three children while the three adult family members were arrested, transported to the Indian River County Jail and charged accordingly.
Following the three arrests, charges were levied on the three suspects based on the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office’s operation:
- Cody Bass was charged with two counts of Sale of a Controlled Substance within 1000 feet of 24-hour store, two counts Possession of Controlled Substance (alprazolam, aka Xanax)) and two counts of Felony Child Neglect. His bond was set at $160,000.
