Trump campaign ordered by federal judge to provide evidence, prove mail-in voter fraud exists
For months, Donald Trump has been espousing the theory that voting by mail leads to vast voter fraud. Trump has never offered up any significant data regarding that claim which election experts say is a false claim. Trump’s claim becomes downright comical after he said that voting by mail in his home state of Florida is fine though, because that process in the Sunshine State is safe. He and the First Lady have already requested their mail-in ballots.
Trump has also indicated he thinks expanding mail balloting would be bad politically for the Republican Party, although research disputes this notion as well. A recent study from Stanford University found no partisan effect of implementing universal mail voting ~ NPR
Back in June, Trump’s re-election campaign sued the state of Pennsylvania when it became known that the Keystone State was implementing mail-in voting for the November 3 elections. The Trump campaign and the Republican National Committee claimed that Pennsylvania’s plan gave “fraudsters an easy opportunity to engage in ballot harvesting, manipulate or destroy ballots, manufacture duplicitous votes, and sow chaos,” according to Bloomberg. The lawsuit filed against Pennsylvania also called for a ban on dropboxes which would allow mail-in voters to deposit their ballots in those secure boxes located at county elections offices.
But yesterday, a Pennsylvania federal judge appointed to the bench by Trump in 2019, ordered the Trump Campaign and the Republican party to basically put up or shut up and to “produce evidence of vote-by-mail fraud in the state.” District Judge J. Nicholas Ranjan ordered the Trump Campaign to produce evidence supporting his claims of voter fraud by today.
The Trump campaign “should not be permitted to raise such spectacular fraud related claims, particular in this national climate,” lawyers representing the Democrats wrote. Although a record number of people are expected to utilize mail-in voting due to the ongoing pandemic and also due to sheer convenience, the Trump administration has thrown another huge monkey wrench in the works by sabotaging the internal workings of the United States Post Office to the point where that service may not be able to deliver ballots to homes in a timely fashion or deliver and return the completed mail in ballots in a timely fashion.
