Two men from Baltimore who thought that robbing a business at gunpoint in Edgewood would be easy pickings discovered otherwise and are now in jail in connection to an armed robbery that went down early Saturday morning.

Yesterday, the Harford County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) announced that on January 6 at approximately 8:06 a.m., a Sheriff’s Office deputy attempted to stop a white Volkswagen sedan traveling at a high rate of speed, in the area of Route 152 and I-95. The Volkswagen failed to stop, so the deputy gave chase.

The deputy notified dispatch that the vehicle was occupied by two males wearing face masks. The pursuit ended safely with the Volkswagen stopping for the near Edgewood Road and Emmorton Park Road.

While in pursuit, at approximately 8:09 a.m., deputies received notification of an armed robbery that had just occurred at the Mystic Mart located in the 1700 block of Hanson Road in Edgewood. During the robbery, the suspects displayed a handgun and fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash and a black iPhone.

The description of the suspect vehicle matched the one currently involved in the pursuit. Once the vehicle was stopped, Jayce Daimon Billips, 22 and Sede Kenyon Baker, 23, both of Baltimore, were identified as the occupants and were subsequently detained at the scene.

Additional deputies were dispatched to assist with the investigation and recovered a black iPhone, U.S. currency, and controlled dangerous substances from the detained individuals. During a thorough canvas along the route of the pursuit, deputies located a small blue bookbag containing a handgun.

Billips and Baker were transported to the Southern Precinct where they were charged and transported to the Harford County Detention Center. At this time, they are both being held without bond.

The Sheriff’s Office said that their investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Anyone with information about this crime, or who may have video of the incident, is asked to contact the Harford County Sheriff’s Office. Those who wish to remain anonymous, may report their information through Metro Crime Stoppers Tipline at 1-866-7Lockup.
